Tuition fee loans

Tuition fees are the annual fees charged by your university or college for attending your course. Your university or college determines your tuition fees and the loan is given directly to them. You must return it.

2021 to 2022 academic year 2022 to 2023 academic year
Part-time student at a private university or college Up to £4,625 Up to £4,625
Part-time student Up to £6,935 Up to £6,935
Full-time student at a private university or college Up to £6,165 Up to £6,165
Full-time student Up to £9,250 Up to £9,250

You may be eligible for help with your living expenses if both of the following apply:

  • You have lived in the UK for more than 3 years before the first day of the first academic year of your course
  • You have settled status

There are various factors that determine which fees you are entitled to and this includes the course you are enrolled in, your age and if you are a UK resident.

Here are some factors that affect whether you qualify for financial aid:

  • There is no upper age limit for tuition fee finance but you must be below 60 years of age to qualify for maintenance.
  • You must be a UK resident and have lived here for at least three years
  • You must be studying higher education for the first time
  • The course you are studying affects whether you are approved for support
